The MESARG Educational Trust (MET) was founded to help students coming to US for their graduate st udies.
Remembering how small loan scholarships and grants funded our own education, we, the trustees, thought that helping new students would be the best way of expressing our gratitude to our supporters. Most of our education was made possible because of generosity of many and especially of one of our teachers. MET is our way of saying "thanks" to these generous people.
We are also indebted to hospitality and generosity of people here in US who gave us a good start, formed our careers and led us to our successes. Helping more deserving students come to US, be successful and contribute to US economy and innovation is our way of saying thanks to them.
We understand the enormous value of help, small or large, tangible or intangible. Because the real value of this help is not in the amount but in the confidence it inspires and the peace of mind it gives to the scholar. This thinking also guided our strategy that MET should not totally fund the scholar's education but supplement sincere attempts of determined applicants. Our intent, therefore, is not to be a dominant provider of funds but to provide the seed money for the scholar's success and to start a community of successful people helping each other.
Our effort to help students started in the year 2000 with four newcomers. In 2001, interest free loans were given to 5 more students, and each year thereafter more students are receiving our small funds along with experienced advice when needed and sincere encouragement at all times.
We formalized these efforts by listing MET in state of Connecticut on May 3, 2003. Soon after, IRS granted MET a "Tax Exempt" Public Charity status as a 501(c) (3) organization.
